HumanR’s research on employee commitment and retention has been featured in two recent articles. The first article, “Commitment and Engagement are Keys to Low Turnover” appeared in the December 18, 2004 issue of Best Practices in HR. The article features an interview with Burgess Levin, Managing Principal, Strategic Services. The article focuses on the differences between commitment and retention, and the importance of retaining the right employees. Co-authored by Burgess Levin and Nathan Sloan, Director of Organizational Development Services, the second article, “Creating Commitment Using Tried and True Retention Strategies,” appeared in the July 2005 issue of Workspan. It provides more detailed analysis of the connection between commitment and retention and explores actions organizations can take to reduce turnover.
Two other recent articles featured HumanR’s success in helping Clarkston Consulting reduce turnover among female employees. “Tech Consulting Firm Muscles Way Out of Turnover Trap” by Theresa Minto-Eversole was published in the February 2005 issue of SHRM Forum High-Tech Net. “Female Attrition Rate Reduced at IT Service Company: A Case Study” appeared in the May 12, 2005 online newsletter of HR.Com. HumanR’s exit interview expertise was featured in a page 1 article in the September 2004 issue of HR Reporter, a Human Resource Executive publication. Entitled “Retention – Lessons learned from exit interview play key role in retaining employees,” the article reports on an interview with two HumanR staff members, Mary Saily, CEO, and Nathan Sloan. The article provides insights from HumanR’s research and tips on how to conduct effective exit interviews to discover the real reasons employees are leaving.
Deanna Banks, Director, Organizational Development Services at HumanR, is the co-author, along with Stephen J. Zacaro of George Mason University, of an article published in the Winter 2004 issue of Human Resource Management: “Leadership Visioning and Adaptability: Bridging the Gap between Research and Practice on Developing the Ability to Manage Change.” The article discusses the reasons for gaps between leadership research and HR practice; describes some components of visioning, adaptability, and managing change; and provides supportive conceptual and empirical research. The authors suggest the use of development work assignments as a leader development strategy for growing these competencies.
